Akademi are excited to be hosting its first ever Screen Dance Festival in March 2021. Curated by screen dance practitioner, Omari Carter, and our Artistic Director, Suba Subramaniam, the festival will feature new and archived South Asian dance films along with curated talks with filmmakers and dance artists.

As part of the festival, Akademi will be commissioning 2 artists to enable them to create a 1- to 2-minute short original screen dance work. The aim is to increase the presence of South Asian dance in dance film festivals. Each artist will be supported through a professional mentor. The budget for the commissions will be £1,000 each with additional in-kind support provided as needed and available.

The works should conform to the genre of screen dance and South Asian Dance. Documentation of live performance or dance documentary will not be accepted. Submissions can be made by an individual or a collective.
