Today is the festival of Pongal. It is harvest festival celebrated in South India, particularly in the Tamil community and typically celebrating in the month of January every year. It is dedicated to the sun and marks the end of the winter solstice, where festive celebrations include decorating cows and their horns, ritual bathing and processions.
