CELEBRATING DIWALI & BANDI CHOR DIVAS

Diwali and Bandi Chor Divas is a grand affair where thousands of Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists celebrate the festival of peace and joy, as well as, the victory of good over evil. It’s a time of togetherness, family and love and is marked with fireworks and food. 

This year, Diwali and Bandi Chor Divas was celebrated all over the UK. In London, a floating flower display lit up Jubilee Park in Canary Wharf and temples welcomed worshippers back. Liverpool Town Hall was also lit up and those nearby were treated to a display of. traditional dancing and drumming. In the capital of Wales, fireworks lit the sky over the city centre near the Principality Stadium.

Bandi Chor Divas is a Sikh celebration that honors the day the sixth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Hargobind ji was released from Gwalior Fort and was able to secure the release of 52 Hindu kings with him, imprisoned by Mughal Emperor Jahangir. Diwali honors the Hindu god Ram went to save his wife Sita from the demon Ravan.
